Reigning Aryna Sabalenka Secures Consecutive WTA Top Player Accolades.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been chosen the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second consecutive season.
The twenty-seven-year-old captured four titles – the highest tally on the circuit – which included successfully defending the US Open in September against Amanda Anisimova to earn her fourth Grand Slam singles triumph.
A Season of Dominance
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine finals, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also won the Brisbane International early in the season, the Miami Open during the spring, and the Madrid Open in May. She spent the whole season as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she became the first player to top 12,000 WTA ranking points since Serena Williams in 2015.
Record-Breaking Numbers
Sabalenka ended the season with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and earned a record eleven million pounds in earnings.
She earned nearly 80% of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is scheduled to face 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a Battle of the Sexes-style exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a new level".
Additional WTA Award Recipients
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking a 13-month break following the birth of her first child and making her comeback to the sport at the start of this year.
- Rookie of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after starting the season positioned outside the world's top 300 and soaring to world number 18.
- Partnership of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were voted after capturing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Most Improved Player of the Year: Amanda Anisimova received the accolade after reaching five championship matches.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz secured three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was voted the fan favorite for a third consecutive time.
